NIAC2026¶
The NIAC2026 meeting will be held as a hybrid event hosted by the European X-ray Free-Electron Laser (European XFEL) & the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY), in the Hamburg area - Germany from 25th to 27th September 2026, the weekend after/adjacent to the 2026 NOBUGS conference.
People will be able to participate both onsite and online (via Zoom). In order to better overlap with other time zones, the meeting sessions will be shorter and later in the day (CEST) over 3 days. The meeting programme on Friday September 25 will contain three public sessions.
Venue and Accommodation¶
The 3.4 km long European X-ray Free-Electron Laser generates extremely intense X-ray flashes used by researchers from all over the world at seven scientific instruments to map atomic details of viruses, film chemical reactions, and study processes in the interior of planets.
DESY is one of the world’s leading centres for research on and with particle accelerators, operating PETRA-III, one of the brightest storage ring X-ray radiation sources in the world, and the Free-Electron Laser facility FLASH.
The NIAC2026 meeting will take place on the DESY campus.

Catering will be provided on Friday September 25, included in the satellite conference fee for NIAC2026. The on-site canteen is available for lunch (availability Sat + Sun 8:00 - 15:00), not included in the registration fee.
The on-site guesthouse is NOT available for NOBUGS/NIAC participants.
September in Hamburg brings mild, comfortable early-fall weather with daytime highs averaging 19° and cool evenings dropping to around 11°. You can expect a mix of pleasant sunny days and occasional light rain, averaging about 13 rainy days across the month.
Registration and Abstracts¶
Select “NIAC (Fri-Sun, self-pay lunch on Sat + Sun)” under “Satellite Meetings on Friday Morning + Full-Day (25.09.2026)”
One can select option “No” under “Main Conference (22.09-24.09.2026)” if only the NIAC meeting shall be attended (in person).
Select the checkbox “Tracks > Satellite Meetings > NIAC
Those onsite need to register for the NIAC satellite meeting (20 EUR registration fee), but do not need to register for NOBUGS if they are only coming for NIAC. Please see the “Registration form for in person satellite meetings (ONLY)”.
Remote attendees who do not participate in NOBUGS do NOT need to register. A Zoom meeting ID will be shared in due time.
People outside of the NIAC are invited to join discussions and register for the meeting but voting will be restricted to committee members only.
